Home league match

Opening day of the season the Quiche found themselves with 6 regulars missing, leaving a depleted squad with Jono making matters worse when he revealed he had to leave to do a PowerPoint presentation on Ballet at the end of the first half.

Somewhat against the run of play Quiche managed to take the lead through a headed goal from MP after some excellent work culminating in a beautiful cross from the returning Filip.

A very competent Suburbs side continued to dominate possession for the rest of the half with the extra man in midfield really making a difference. They managed to hit the crossbar, the post and Neil pulled off a great save on his return but failed to equalise until quite late in the half when Neil couldn't quite keep out a powerful header from the edge of the six yard box.

With Jono leaving for his presentation changes were made at half time with Mark making his highly anticipated return to the quiche after a couple of years away - This return lasted all of 60 seconds when he hobbled off with a suspected Period.

It was later revealed in the bar that whatever the injury actually was he managed to do it running on to the pitch! An early contender for Quiche of the year.

With the Quiche employing a 5 man midfield in the second half just leaving the raw pace of Chris up front it was a much more even half, with Chris having a couple of chances, Matt Hyde having a great chance and the silent captain Tom skying several efforts into the stands but Suburbs still having more of the possession.

Jimmy put in a solid performance on his debut until also limping off the field with a size-able bruise to his shin after about 70 mins leaving the quiche with the bare 11 for the last 20 minutes or so.

The whole team had to dig deep and showed a lot of fight and spirit which has probably been missing for the last season or two and although quiche had probably had the better chances overall there were a lot of happy faces to see the final whistle and it felt like a good point rather than 2 dropped.

Next week the quiche are away to the Shotaholics at Michael's Ave at 1pm.
