The encounter, lasting 80 minutes plus added time, ended in a high-scoring 5-3 victory for Totteridge, showcasing attacking flair and tactical adjustments throughout.
Totteridge lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, designed to balance defensive solidity with creative midfield support. Joshan Nijjar took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper. The back four consisted of Daniel Shah at right back, Muhammed Vayani and Oleg Krivosic as central defenders, and Rory Fairless on the left. Across midfield, Nico Cox operated on the right wing, Sam Anderson and Tatenda Makoni held the central midfield roles, while Adam Hussain provided width on the left. Just behind the lone striker, Logan Paulse, played attacking midfielder Muhammad Ali Qarni, tasked with linking play and creating chances.
The substitutes named were Chaise Duff and Noah Brereton, ready to impact the game as it unfolded.
The match burst into life early on when Muhammad Ali Qarni opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Receiving a free kick delivered by central defender Muhammed Vayani, Qarni expertly struck inside the box with his right foot to give Totteridge the lead. Just four minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage as Adam Hussain capitalised on a close-range chance, finishing with his left foot after a precise assist from right midfielder Nico Cox.
Burnham Junior Whites pulled one back in the 16th minute, albeit through an unfortunate own goal, which crept in off a right-footed effort, reducing the deficit to 2-1. The game’s tempo remained high, but Totteridge made a double substitution on the 20-minute mark, with Chaise Duff replacing Muhammed Vayani and Noah Brereton coming on for Tatenda Makoni, signalling a tactical tweak.
As the first half progressed, both sides battled hard, but no further goals arrived before the break, with the teams heading into the interval at 2-1 in favour of Totteridge.
Immediately after half-time, Totteridge made further changes, reintroducing Muhammed Vayani in place of Sam Anderson and bringing Tatenda Makoni back on for Rory Fairless. These adjustments aimed to refresh the midfield and defensive lines as Burnham sought to find an equaliser.
Burnham Junior Whites managed to level the scores in the 54th minute, bringing the game to 2-2 and setting up a tense second half. Totteridge responded with a substitution at the hour mark, sending on Sam Anderson for Daniel Shah and restoring Rory Fairless to the left-back position in place of Nico Cox.
The visitors regained the lead in the 65th minute when Adam Hussain struck again, this time assisted by substitute Noah Brereton. Hussain’s finish inside the box with his left foot was clinical and restored Totteridge’s advantage at 3-2.
Just three minutes later, Muhammed Vayani unleashed a spectacular effort from outside the box, a right-footed screamer that extended the lead to 4-2 and electrified the away supporters.
Burnham refused to lie down and were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute, which they converted with a right-footed strike, narrowing the gap to 4-3 and setting up a nervy finale.
However, Totteridge quickly restored their two-goal cushion as striker Logan Paulse latched onto a long pass from Noah Brereton and finished confidently inside the box in the 71st minute, making it 5-3.
In the closing stages, Totteridge made two further substitutions at the 75-minute mark, with Nico Cox returning to the pitch for Adam Hussain and Daniel Shah coming on for Oleg Krivosic, shoring up the defence and midfield as they looked to see out the victory.
Adam Hussain’s influential performance, marked by two vital goals and tireless work down the left flank, earned him the player of the match accolade. Totteridge’s tactical flexibility and attacking prowess ultimately secured a memorable and hard-fought win on the road.
