Away league match
Dyce ITC were the opposition today as Tolbooth visited the home side's impressive new 4G for the first time. Buchan, Petrie and Rattray came into the starting 11 from last week's 6-2 victory over Lads Club. Scott Keith served a 1 match suspension.
The home side dominated early play, spreading the ball about the large artificial surface, with Tolbooth struggling to get to grips with it and make any real impact on the game. A series of golden opportunities soon arrived for Dyce, firstly a header smashed the Tbooth cross bar from a corner and minutes later an unmarked Dyce player headed over from just outside the 6 yard box. With Tolbooth more than riding their luck, full back Buchan then superbly blocked on the line to somehow keep things at 0-0. With only 11 minutes on the clock, ironically it was Tolbooth that took the lead, very much against the run of play. Sean Keith picked up the ball on the right wing and produced an excellent delivery into the box that Mearns smashed in from close range - 1-0 to the Tbooth! Minutes later, it was almost 2-0. The overlapping Buchan's pin point cross found Mearns but his first time goal bound effort produced a great save from the Dyce number 1. Tolbooth continued to push for the second goal and it almost arrived when Mearns capitalised on a defence mistake but his lobbed effort from distance had the goalkeeper beaten, but unfortunately dropped the wrong side of the cross bar. Score at half time 0-1.
Into the second half and it was again the home side who started brightly. Despite some resilient Tbooth defending, on 54 minutes the dreaded equaliser arrived. The Dyce player weaved into the Tolbooth box, Chapman saved the initial strike to his right, but the home side reacted quickest to finish into the empty net. 1-1 and game on! With things now in the balance, up stepped Simpson to fire the Tbooth back into the lead on 62 minutes. Sean Keith was again involved and cut back to Simpson who seen his first goal bound effort blocked on the line, but finished the rebound into the net from close range. The home side went in the hunt for the equaliser, but Tolbooth defended a number of balls into the box to keep the lead, while continuing to look dangerous on the counter attack. On 88 minutes, Tolbooth killed the game off. Man of the match Sean Keith carried the ball from left to right in a great move before squaring to Simpson who tapped home for his second and Tbooths third of the day securing a vital 3 points!
