Tolbooth shuffled the pack for the visit of Balmedie in the Scottish Cup 2nd round at Balgownie. With a number of players on holiday and top scorer Shand taking the afternoon off to return to the dating scene with a trip to Codonas Pirate Island; Paterson, Adam, Stratton, Murray and Michie were welcomed back into the line up. Skipper for he day Scott Keith also returned from suspension and was partnered in the centre of the park by Simpson who moved infield.

Tolbooth got off to the perfect start, racing into the lead on 3 minutes! Sean Keith played a delightful reverse pass to Simpson who broke through the middle of the park, carrying the ball away from the covering defenders and smashing home on the left foot.

Balmedie immediately responded by forcing Chapman into a one on one save after a defensive error and then a series of corners and throw ins which were dealt with well by the home side defence. The lively Sean Keith almost doubled the home side advantage when released clear on goal by his younger brother. His volley from a tight angle extremely unfortunate to cannon away to safety off the inside of the post. On 30 minutes, Balmedie almost equalised when another throw in lead to a dangerous cross into the box which was flicked goalwards forcing a terrific reaction save from Chapman. The last action of the half saw Buchan head wide after being picked out from a whipped cross from the right by Paterson.

Into the second half, Tolbooth upped their energy levels and began to take control of the game. A number of chances came and went with Sean Keith denied on numerous occasions by the impressive Balmedie goalkeeper. The home teams goal survived a massive scare on 65 minutes when following a corner Balmedie struck the under side of the bar before the ball fell safely into the hands of Chapman.

Into the last 10 minutes Tolbooth finally put the game to bed. On 84 minutes Simpson won the ball in midfield before releasing Sean Keith to slot the ball away from the keeper and into the bottom corner. 2 minutes later a touch of gloss was applied to the scoreline when a slick one touch passing move ended with Paterson cutting the ball back for Scott Keith to strike home into the bottom corner.
