Well here we go again 9 months of ups and downs and today was a huge up. Going into this 1st game of the season against newly promoted workhouse gym was always going to be a big challenge. Only having 14 available wasn't ideal from 22 however it was a good 14. So we lined up with a change from our usual formation of 352 to 4231, with Nick in goal dosh and ian was the full backs with sam and ryan at centre half dukey and alex was the protection with conlon jonty and joni the midfield attacking 3 with parkey leading the line. left a 3 man bench of mel josh and blythey.
We set off a bit nervy and workhouse had a lot of the ball but without really threatening our backline. We then took the lead with a quick break dukey setting conlon free down the right a tight angle can he finish ? yes he can excellent strike. We was fortunate to still be in front when they nearly scored but a good interception by ryan hit the woodwork and bounced safe. We hit them on the counter and conlon again found himself clean through down the centre and again made no mistake doubling our lead. Alex should have made it three after parkey put it on a plate for him 4 yards out only for him to smash it straight at there player on the line. We did make it 3 from an excellent team move from bk to front with jonni putting a excellent ball across onto jonty's run into the box who finished well. Credit to workhouse they never they never gave in and got 1 bk just b4 half time with an excellent strike.
We knew coming out 2nd half next goal was key and it was workhouse who got it making it 3-2 now we needed to show character. And we did we pressed forward well and was rewarded with a penalty when there lad hand balled it in the area. Jonni made no mistake from the spot tucking it away in the bottom left giving keeper no chance. 1st change came off came alex who was injured on came blythey who dropped in at centre half and sam moved upto centre mid. With twenty left nicky put a great kick through onto parky's run who made no mistake in making it 5-2 and giving us that 3 goal cushion again. That was just about it for the big man he was replaced with josh. final change saw mel replace jonni. we could have made it 6 n 7 as we had a few breakaway moments near end but wasn't to be.
overall was an excellent TEAM performance workrate desire everything i asked for pre game delivered. Well done boys top performance
