A poor game across the field saw us take a heavy defeat from a superior team. With a number of new faces making their debuts for the Turf, they were unfortunate to be apart of a poor performing team today.
We started off as the better side, storming the opposition with chance after chance for the first fifteen, they struggled to contain us and it quickly looked like we were going to be the dominant side ... How wrong we were, after one amazing shot from outside the area, curled right into the top corner, it was all down hill from there. We crumbled completely, unable to play with the ball and getting utterly out-played in midfield, as they passed the ball between us like we weren't even there.
It wasn't long before we went two goals down with a one on one chance that should have been called offside, however the goal stood; but this would not be the only mistake on the referees part this game.
The game continued, and saw new-comer, Welsh, receive the first yellow card this season with a naughty challenge on the opposition.
Halftime came and went, and we continued to be outdone in the middle, with bad passes and wrong decisions. However, we did pick up into life come the second half, only two goals down, we slowly started picking ourselves back up again. But it didn't take long before we were knocked down a peg as a corner was swung in to an unmarked attacker at the back stick, with a lofted header over everyone and into the back of the net.
The fourth goal came shortly after with another pressing attack, as the opposition passed the ball unchallenged along the park until firing the ball into the net from inside the box. The game pressed on as we became more sluggish, until finally, with a moment of madness from myself in goal, attempting to back-heel the ball to a defender goes horribly wrong, as the striker easily receives the ball, and as I've slid in outside my box, blatantly fouling the attacker, the referee knowingly makes the wrong choice, and points to the spot for a penalty, as they go five goals up, leaving us with a bad taste in our mouths.
