Tenisons III hosted Old Wilsonians 4th at Archbishop Tenison’s School Sports Ground #1 on 17 January 2026, with kick-off at 1:30pm in a cup tie. The visitors ran out comfortable 5-0 winners in a one-sided encounter that saw Old Wilsonians, who are two leagues above Tenisons, dominate with clinical finishing.

Tenisons III lined up in a 4-1-2-1-2 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with attacking intent. Anes Papazachariou took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper, protected by a back four comprising George Toner at right back, Dave Garry and Jeremy Barton as central defenders, and Sean McCoy on the left. Dre Robinson operated as the lone holding midfielder, tasked with shielding the defence and recycling possession. Ahead of him, the three attacking midfielders were Liam Mepham on the right, Sean Smith centrally, and Luke Hinds on the left, expected to link play and create chances. Up front, Sahr Gbembo and Garth Foley formed the striking partnership, charged with leading the line and converting opportunities. On the bench, SA John and Christian Hall were named as substitutes.

Old Wilsonians took the lead early in the first half, breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute. Despite Tenisons III’s attempts to regroup, the visitors doubled their advantage by the 30th minute, signalling a difficult afternoon ahead for the home side. The pressure continued to mount as Old Wilsonians struck again in the 37th minute, leaving Tenisons trailing 3-0 well before the interval.

Just before half time, Old Wilsonians added a fourth goal in the 43rd minute, compounding Tenisons’ woes. At the break, the hosts made a change with SA John replacing George Toner at right back, hoping fresh legs might stem the tide. The teams went in at half time with Old Wilsonians holding a commanding 4-0 lead.

The second half saw Old Wilsonians maintain their dominance, scoring their fifth goal in the 58th minute to effectively seal the contest. Tenisons III responded with a substitution of their own shortly after, bringing on Christian Hall for Liam Mepham in an attempt to inject energy into the midfield. Later, in the 80th minute, George Toner returned to the field, this time replacing central defender Jeremy Barton as the home side sought to adjust their defensive setup.

Despite these changes, Tenisons III were unable to find a way back into the match, with Old Wilsonians comfortably managing the remainder of the game to secure a comprehensive 5-0 victory. The visitors’ clinical finishing and sustained pressure proved decisive, leaving Tenisons to reflect on a tough cup exit on home soil.
