Away league match
Tenisons III travelled to Sutton Grammar School Sports Ground on 6 December 2025 for their league away fixture against Old Suttonians 5th, kicking off at 1:15pm. The match ended in a 3-0 defeat for Tenisons III after a hard-fought 90 minutes plus injury time.
Tenisons III lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with attacking creativity. Jarrod Chater took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper. The back four consisted of Sam Gleeson at right back, George Woodger and Jeremy Barton as central defenders, and Sean McCoy on the left. In midfield, Dre Robinson and Garth Foley operated as the two central midfielders tasked with both breaking up play and initiating attacks. Ahead of them, the three attacking midfielders were Jimmy X on the right, Luke Hinds centrally, and Sahr Gbembo on the left, all expected to support lone striker Sonny Smith leading the line. No substitutes were named for this fixture.
The first half saw both sides test each other cautiously, with Tenisons III attempting to control possession through their midfield duo and creative trio. However, despite their efforts, the visitors were unable to break down the home defence or find a way past the Old Suttonians 5th goalkeeper. The half concluded, with a sloppy goal conceded by Tenisons. The goalie tried to dribble out but was dispossessed and the Sutton striker had a tap in. 1-0 at the break.
The second half proved more challenging for Tenisons III as Old Suttonians 5th increased their intensity and took control of the game. The home side managed to find the net two times, capitalising on defensive lapses and clinical finishing. Tenisons III struggled to respond, with their attacking players unable to convert a number of chances against a resolute defence.
Throughout the match, Tenisons III’s defensive line, marshalled by Woodger and Barton, faced pressure from the Old Suttonians forwards. Gleeson and McCoy worked hard to contain attacks down the flanks but were often stretched. In midfield, Robinson and Foley battled to regain possession and feed the attacking trio, but the visitors found it difficult to maintain sustained pressure.
Sonny Smith, as the lone striker, was isolated for much of the game, receiving limited service from the attacking midfielders. Jimmy X, Hinds, and Gbembo endeavoured to link play and create opportunities but were thwarted by the home side’s disciplined defensive organisation.
Despite their best efforts, Tenisons III were unable to alter the course of the match in the second half, ultimately succumbing to a 3-0 defeat. The result leaves them with much to reflect on as they look ahead to their next league encounter.
