Another excellent first half showing secured the points today as Airdrie visited Forthbank. Our opponents have been in excellent form, and always tough to play against - this morning was no different.
Dan continued his blistering form with another double. Getting us ahead in the first couple of minutes with a great strike from 25yrds. We asked the boys to play more direct today and get it into the front 3 early which they did very well. Particularly in the first half. Airdrie were having good tidy possession of the ball but we looked threatening every time we went forward. Dan made it two in the 17th minute, running into the edge of the box after a nice reverse ball from Tyler.
We had another 3 or 4 excellent chances in first half to put the game to bed but good goalkeeping kept us out. Into the second half and we again started brightly with Emmanuel then Tyler denied the 3rd just after halftime. We then thought we should have had a penalty when Shay was clipped running into a 1-2. 2nd half was less eventful all round with a lot of fouls and yellow cards punctuating the game - which in all honesty really had very few bad tackles and was played on good spirits.
Across the full 80 minutes the lads defended tremendously giving up very few chances overall. Evan and Ellis are forming a terrific partnership at centre back, and the whole team worked exceptionally hard to defend from the front. With about a minute left Airdrie grabbed a goal which made for a nervy finish. However in terms of clear chances created today the lads very much deserved their win.
MOTM - a number of very solid performances today - particularly through the spine of the team.Tyler was everywhere and grabbed two assists, Dan with another two excellent goals to add to his tally and Eman a threat throughout. However the vote came down to our two centre backs today - Evan and Ellis both exceptional. Winning their duels, covering each other and generally making it tough for Airdrie to penetrate. Evan led the offside line well, while Ellis swept up cleverly. In the end can't split them so joint MOTM.
