The SSAFC made the long trip up to Staffordshire this morning and came back with a convincing 4-1 win over Port Vale.

The SSAFC started slowly and the first effort was from Vale when their midfielder got the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a low drive that was well kept out by Bell before making another save to deny Vale from the rebound. The SSAFC looked to get on top and started to dominate the game in spells and it wasn't long until my till the SSAFC got ahead when good play from skipper Sam Dunn on the left got in a low cross that found Swales at the edge of the box who's low effort found the bottom corner to make it a positive start for the the SSAFC.

The SSAFC made more chances with Jeorge Wedge hitting the bar from a cross and Jonni Wedge somehow missing from 2 yards out with the goal at his mercy. Vale kept pressing but the backline of the SSAFC stood firm and resorted Vale to long shots which didn't test Rowe in goal. The SSAFC then got their second when Dunn floated a free kick centrally and it found an unmarked Ricky Dutton to glance the ball into the net. Swales then had a pot shot go just over but the third did come when a corner wasn't cleared and the ball was whipped in to Dunn at the back who's header hit the bar and fell kindly to Daniel Ridley who smashed home from 8 yards out.

The second half started quickly for the SSAFC when good play in the midfield found Tutton who put a lovely through ball to Swales who's effort was tipped into the post and bounced clear. Vale started to put pressure onto the backline but Ridley and Barker mopped up everything before a flashpoint when Jonni Wedge was sent off for an apparent elbow leaving the SSAFC down to 10 men despite asking for a sub. The SSAFC had to work hard and got a 4th when Dunn floated a teasing ball to Swales who took it round the keeper and lobbed the defender chasing back before the ball hit the defender and into the net to make it 4-0.

Port Vale looked to get back into the game but their efforts didn't hit the target with a resoult SSAFC defence and midfield in front to make it difficult to break down. Dutton then had an effort go wide before Collins had a golden chance when Bell sent him thorough but his effort went just over. The SSAFC were looking to slow the game down but were unable to keep a clean sheet when a corner found their striker who headed towards goal and went through the hands of Rowe to make it 4-1 just before full time. The SSAFC saw out the rest of the game and got the win they deserved.
