The SSAFC started the new 2016/17 season the way they finished last season with a convincing 4-0 victory away at Grimsby on what was a wet and unsettled Saturday morning in North east Lincolnshire!

The SSAFC with a new debutant in Sam Etheridge went up with a squad of 12 and could have been behind in the first minute when the ball wasnt cleared and their striker missing the target being one on one with Rowe who was in goal. The SSAFC looked to make full advantage of that miss and looked to get on the scoresheet first with Swales having a header go wide. He then was sent through one on one after a lovely pass from Bell but after rounding the keeper found the defender on the line who cleared for a corner. Grimsby then had a deflected shot saved with the feet of Rowe. The SSAFC looked on top and made it count when great hussle from Swales on the right who worked hard to get the ball and hit the byline before sending in a lovely low cross to Jackson who made the finish look easy to make it 1-0!

The SSAFC were dominating but unable to make chances count, Barker having a header ruled out for a foul but it wasnt long till the second arrive when a lovely floated cross from Carroll found a leaping Jackson who's bullet header hit the bar and fell kindly for Ridley who cooly slammed home from 8 yards out to make it 2-0. The SSAFC were good value for the lead with the SSAFC backline keeping out the Grimsby attack before the half time whistle went.

The second half started as the same with the SSAFC enjoying good spells with the ball but keeping a solid back line. Barker had a good chance go over from a corner and Swales hit a volley just over. Quick thinking from a Carroll corner found Jackson who's effort was deflected wide. Ridley heading over from the resulting corner. It didnt take long for the 3rd and a good goal to go for the SSAFC when Sapsed passed to Chesworth who took on two players and unleashed a lovely low crisp strike from 20 yards out which hit the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

The SSAFC were still searching for goals with Jackson having a free kick well saved and Bell hitting the post from 20 yards out. Etheridge then had a great chance but fired over from 6 yards out. Swales finally got on the scoresheet and a goal he deserved for his work rate when lovely build up from Jackson realised him and he fired home from close range to make it 4-0 and game over. The SSAFC sealed a very good win away from home and played with that confidence from last season.
