Away cup match

The SSAFC sealed their first trophy in 10 years in the London Cup after a very tough game against good opposition in Brentford.

The game started with both sides a bit nervy, Jonni Wedge having the first effort which was tame and straight at the keeper. Brentford looked dangerous going forward but the back line stood firm with Brentford wasting most of their chances and not testing Brown in goal. The SSAFC looked to gain the advantage and Wedge again had an effort go over and Teale had a free kick well wide. Brown then was called into action with a good low save & done well to parry a low cross away.

The game was mainly a midfield battle with both sides showing a lack of composure in the final third. The SSAFC for the last 10 minutes put on alot more pressure and Deards had a goal ruled out for offside despite the linesman not having the flag up, a bit strange but the decision stood. Deards then had a header parried wide just before the half time whistle.

The second half started off and the SSAFC looked to carry on from the end of the first half with Deards just blasting over from a good position. The SSAFC took the lead when a free kick from about 35 yards was hit well by Rowe and it flew into the top of the net to make it 1-0 and a goal worthy of a final! The SSAFC then had another goal ruled out when a Teale free kick from 30 yards flew straight in after the goalkeeper appeared to get a touch on it but was ruled that he didnt and it was an indirect free kick. Plenty of decisions seemed not to favour the SSAFC in the last 20 but they had to get on with and stand firm with Lewis Collins in midfield winning everything in the air and showing his quality.

Brown was called into action and made a good low save with his knee when through and then denied them with a good smart save. The SSAFC defend stood firm with Teale going to centre back after Rowe was injured but him and Chesworth kept the Brentford strikers quiet. The last 5 minutes was all Brentford possession wise but the SSAFC kept their composure and shut out the Brentford attack to seal their first trophy in 10 years and won the IFA London Cup!!!!
