Well, where do I start?....we were supposed to play at walsall wood. It was waterlogged so we managed to get it on at ALDRIDGE.
Which unfortunately meant I had to set up the pitch!
We had Amber and Zohra call off with sickness
Then Grace was grounded .....not forgetting Ellie that has decided to not play again
So we started against probably the best team in the league with ONLY 10 players.
As we started it began to rain and it was cold...
This soon had an effect on our smaller younger players...who struggled to keep warm.
Walsall Wood are a bigger stronger and more physical side and were always going to dominate.
However the starlands girls dug in and defended with their lives. Against the run of play Laurice took a free kick to HANNAH who finished to take the lead!!!....1-0 to Starlands ...STOP THE GAME REF.
LOL.not the first time we said that, HANNAH was in agony with stomach cramps and as she was off Walsall Wood scored against our 9. 1-1(Albeit well taken goal from Georgia) , I know it's not a head injury but ref. Could have stopped earlier.
Anyway, a lovely through ball put OLIVIA away, only to be systematically and intentionally taken out... Last man....goal scoring chance....?...of course!..its OLIVIA.
Anyway foul given but no card...further arm holding and more robust play was shown...and clearly indicates the difference in the gap between the two teams.
Half time came and 1-1 was epic !...Alex went along with Toni due to the cold. KIERA was soon to follow ...it's hard enough with 10....but 8 then 7 against a quality team....
Walsall wood picked us off and scored 2 more.
Excellent performances from EVERYONE. Really proud of the effort....you had Walsall Wood worried for a short while....never seen Mike so excited
We look forward to trying again next week v same opposition ...hopeful with at least 11 if you haven't all got pneumonia ?!!!....
Standout performances from Holly ,Sam, Hannah and Chloe. But you all did extremely well. thank you ! And thanks parents for your support.
Quote of the day was heard from our Captain to Sam,,."does it look like I ve **** myself ?....it feels like I have !".....quality ...you never fail to make me laugh. Well done Walsall Wood with the promotion and title challenge!
