SOLIHULL VIXENS 3 - STARLANDS 0 (A) 21/4/12

Apologies for any inaccuracies in this match report.

I started by writing down the starting the line up - and never touched it after that! Such was the excitement and enjoyment of this match.

STARLAND's were ever so unlucky last week against DIAMONDS, and I am starting to sound like a broken record - But, once again that opening goal was the crucial difference between the two sides.

Last time out, Starlands lost 3-1 to VIXENS - and today the result was repeated - with Samantha scoring last time out too.

Starlands welcomed back Grace, Jade and Laurice to the fold.

From the kick off it was STARLANDS who were applying the pressure. But, true to form - a break away attack from the home side resulted in a silly goal from a lack of concentration.

The girls did not let their heads drop - and battled on with numerous attacks.

Holly was a stalwart at the back coming off her line and closing down the attackers forcing them to shoot wide on a number of occassions.

Georgia seems to be enjoying her role up front - and was holding the ball up well allowing Alex,Sam and Martha to try and support.

The midfield trio were blocking and closing the opposition down immediately , and covering all areas of the pitch - great effort!

Like last week The STARLAND's shots all seemed to be from the edge of the box - even when the opportunity presented itself to close in on goal and make the shot easier.

Hannah and her sister Laurice were reading the game well and making some decisive clearances and tackles. Again, the midfield were tracking back to support - and refused to allow VIXENS a clear shot on goal.

It remained 1 - 0 at the break, and STARLANDS were playing well.

Becky made some substitutions - and there was a fear that things may slip. However, Grace and Sinead carried on the battle , and Grace injured her shoulder in the process - Jade was pushed up front and was making a nuisance of herself to the VIXENS defenders.

The VIXENS goalkeeper was called into action on more than one occassion. STARLAND's forced a numnber of corners and for once the girls were running into the box and getting a shot away.

Alex, Samantha and Georgia all having shots on goal.

It should not be forgotten - that VIXENS had chances of thier own and were guilty of missing an open goal with a header and shooting wide.

VIXENS eventually got their break and with 15 minutes left took a 2-0 lead. STARLAND's refused to give up - and from a corner the ball broke to Sam in the box who swung a boot and lashed the ball into the top corner! GOoooaaaal!!!!!!!!! The crowd and players went wild..You'd have thought we'd won the Cup! Finally we've scored!!!! a drought longer than Torres! VIXENS were rattled and STARLAND's sensed a draw.

VIXENS though struck back and scored a well taken third burying the shot in the bottom corner. The game finished 3-1 to VIXENS.

It was a terrific game enjoyed by everyone! Credit to STARLAND's girls. Jason was impressed by the improvement - and the girl's continue to make Becky and The parents proud.

GIRL OF THE GAME was awarded to goal scorer SAMANTHA - and that takes her tally to 4 for the season!

Next weeks game is at home to Warwick Angels. Ordinarily, I think we would give them a run for their money. We have improved so much over the season - and only lost 1-0 from a defelcted goal last time out in the last minutes - and Georgia was hacked down when closing in on goal too! Unfortunately Holly is away - So, the question is...WHO WILL PLAY IN GOAL?

TRIALS WILL TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY NIGHT!!!!!! BRING YOUR GLOVES!!!!
