Staines & Lammas FC faced off against Westside in a keenly contested league match at Addlestone Moor on 18 September 2024, kicking off at 7:45pm. Despite a valiant effort, Staines & Lammas fell short, losing the match 2-1.
Staines & Lammas deployed a classic 4-4-2 formation, which offered a solid defensive line alongside a balanced midfield. Richard Bond took his place in goal, shielded by a back four consisting of Daniel Boyden on the right, Ethan Leeks and Daniel Callan in central defence, with Telmo Lima anchoring the left. Oliver James Mayer and Josh Stewart occupied the right and left flanks respectively, providing width to the attack, while Luke Rippon and Craig Stephen-lett formed a central partnership, tasked with controlling the midfield and linking the defence to the forwards. Up front, Jake Swain and Rashane Wilson were charged with leading the attack, seeking to convert any opportunities created by their midfielders.
In the early exchanges of the match, Westside struck first, taking a lead in the 10th minute, which set the tone for a tough outing for Staines & Lammas. The home side responded by making a strategic change in the 28th minute, bringing on Bobby Cooper for Luke Rippon in an effort to strengthen their midfield presence.
As the match unfolded, it remained tightly contested until half-time, with Staines & Lammas having to regroup after conceding the early goal. The period ended with Westside leading, and the hosts were left to ponder their next moves in the second half.
The second half saw Staines & Lammas come out with renewed vigour, and in the 61st minute, Rashane Wilson found the back of the net, bringing the score to 1-1 and igniting hope among the home fans. However, the momentum was short-lived as Westside regained their lead, scoring again in the 85th minute to make it 2-1.
In an attempt to alter the course of the match, Staines & Lammas made further substitutions: Daniel Bamba came on for Telmo Lima in the 66th minute, while Fuad Banire and Joe Cooper were introduced for Daniel Boyden and Rashane Wilson respectively in the 79th minute.
As the match drew to a close, Joshua Hieke was brought on for Ethan Leeks in the 90th minute. However, the match ended with a yellow card being issued to Craig Stephen-lett, underscoring the tensions that had built throughout the contest.
Ultimately, Staines & Lammas FC’s efforts were not enough to turn the tide against a determined Westside side, leaving the home team to reflect on their performance and prepare for their next challenge.
