The post match beer with a whisky chaser was very much needed after this drab affair. A long ball over the top in the very first minute caught both Town CB’s square, skipper Charlie Swingwood gave chase to the Cassies striker but only managed to bundle him to the ground for a correctly awarded spot kick. The man in all green made no mistake and settled the hosts down converting the early gift.

The remainder of the first half saw Cassies ask the majority of questions and have the lions share of clear cut chances. Joe Morris in the visiting goal was called to arms several times and his decision making was on point each time. Town had an outlet in striker Peter Tautscher who appeared to be relishing the physical side of his duel with the experienced Casusls sweeper. The defender was equally up for the battle and it was nice to see two players ‘going at it’ with a desire to win whilst relishing the battle but retaining a respect for the other.

The second half saw Town make four changes of personnel and significantly change shape with three at the back. The net effect saw Town take a foothold in the game and start to ask a few questions of their hosts. Nathan Scott on the right wing showed his intent within the first five minutes, he showed the fullback inside before accelerating on the outside and delivering an inviting cross that was headed clear.

In the 68th minute Scott was hauled down for a free kick. Josh Wilson delivered a deep cross that was met at the back post by centre half Henry Smith whose header levelled proceedings.

Both sides carved out further opportunities and striker Kyle Wainwright had a good shout for a penalty turned down when nudged in the back whilst jumping to head a Kyle Ashman cross.

The winning goal came in the most unusual of circumstances. In advance of 90 minutes on the clock, Casuals had a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. After a goalmouth scramble GK Joe Morris secured possession. Town had gambled and kept two players in advanced positions and Morris saw this and looked to capitalise. His attempted drop kick however smashed into the back of his own defender and dropped for the easiest of tap ins with what was literally the final kick of the game.

Thank you to the lovely people behind the scenes at Casuals for hosting us and we wish you well at step 5 should the suggested restructuring happen.
