Away league match
The first league game of the season was highly anticipated by all and it most certainly did not disappoint with the away side coming from behind to win 3-2 in a frenetic game of football.
With It being the boys first game in the B league and not knowing much about our opponents the boys weren't too sure what to expect but as soon as the game kicked off they realised this would be no walk in the park.
Russellers attacked with pace and slick passing from the off causing major problems for SMC quickly going 1 up after 4 minutes, these attacks continued throughout the first 10 minutes drawing multiple saves from the “Premier Goal keeper” George who would turn out to be one of the outstanding performers of the day.
While holding out after conceding early in the game the boys grew into the game and they got their reward with a well taken goal by current top scorer Henry as he rounded the keeper and tapped into an empty net, 1-1.
2 minutes later Henry would get his 2nd of the game
With a rocket of a right foot from the edge of the box the ball hitting the net before the keeper could move.
Olli T capped off an impressive performance with SMC’s 3rd goal of the day calmly slotting into the left hand corner after a quick throw in from the right.
Russellers pulled it back to make it 3-2 soon after and deservedly so, George continued to make save after save as SMC managed to hold out for an impressive victory against a very good side in their B league debut.
While the boys may have rode their luck a little at times but through sheer effort and determination the boys did enough on the day to get the result, the manager selected George, Henry, Olli T and Luca for the players of the match award (well deserved), this takes nothing away from the other boys who were also excellent throughout.
With a crowd of just 28 on the opening league game today the social media manager has been notified and will begin an advertising campaign to ensure a record attendance at our next home game against Dartford Blue.
A few things for the boys to work on in training going forward but we continue to progress every week and the A league will be our target.
Get well soon to Max & Tony who under the weather and missed the game and also Ronnie who was unable to make it taking care of his poorly baby brother. We hope they will be back next week
