Good test of character for Social this week as they played out a 2-2 draw against a strong Rock A Nore side.
Rocks started on the front foot, dominating the midfield as Social struggled to keep the ball. An underhit back pass saw a deflected clearance from the keeper bouncing off a Rocks player to give them a deserved 1-0 lead.
Social grew into the game and created a couple of chances that were well stopped and ended the first half on the front foot. The half time team talk was thrown out the window within a few minutes of the second half when Rocks won a corner. The delivery could have been cleared on numerous occasions before it was smashed home to make it 2-0.
Social got a life line when the ref awarded them a penalty for a challenge on Graham Stovell. Studs up seemed to be the reason but in the disputing of the decision Rocks began to lose their composure. Gav Ramsden hammered home the penalty and it was game on.
Social took control from here and were quickly awarded a second penalty. A ball played to John Walker was beautifully dummied into the path of Leon Mende who was dragged to the ground. Why both players were the furthest forward we are yet to work out but we didn’t care! Gavin Ramsden converted and the game was 2-2! Chances at both ends to win it came and went and the match ended a draw.
Although Social will be disappointed with their overall performance on the ball, their battling display and team spirit warranted a good point.
Man of the Match went to Steve Glavin for some excellent and timely saves and the Donkey of the Match went to Joe Murray for his poor back pass and running out of legs after 5 minutes.
