vs Little Common II

Away league match

A big crowd turned out to watch Social 2nds claim another 3 points under the lights at Little Common. Rotating the pack due to injuries and absentees saw Matt Boyman, John Walker, Joe Murray and Grant Cornelius return to the starting 11. Social started on the front foot but a long ball over the top found Commons striker who neatly tucked the ball past the keeper to give them an early lead. Social responsed well with the Common keeper making 2 very smart saves to preserve there lead. Eventually Tony Atkin managed to beat him to give Social the goal their play deserved. With the first half looking like finishing all square Leon Mende decided to make the game interesting by gifting Common a penalty for handball, luckily the post came to the rescue to see the score remain 1-1 at half time.

The second half started with Social creating some more good chances that they failed to score but Common were gradually creeping into the game whilst playing direct football. Eventually Social took the lead, the excellent Grant Cornelius teeing up Graham Stovell for a simple tap in. Common rallied and another long ball eventually created a goal mouth scramble that saw the ball squeezed over the line to make the game 2-2. However heads stayed high and the team responded well and with Paul Feakin driving us on in midfield it wasn’t long before it became 3-2. With Grant Cornelius getting the goal his performance deserved. The game wasn’t over there though, with only minutes left the referee awarded social a penalty, again handball. Gavin Ramsden stepped up to dispatch it firmly in to the corner of the goal! 4-2, 3 points and a good strong team display.

Several contenders for man of the match but Matt Boyman took it for his tireless runs and solid all round game. Donkey of the week was awarded to Leon Mende ??
