With injuries taking there toll Social travelled to 2nd placed Battle Baptist’s with a bare 11 players.
The game started at a frantic place with Battle’s attack causing problems with their movement. Eventually A long ball assisted by the wind and bounce allowed battle to take the lead.
Not to be out done Social responded well and a great header by Graham Stovell levelled the scores at half time.
In the 2nd half Social dug deep with some good solid defending and some big tackles. Always looking a threat on the break Tony Atkin made the game 2-1. With the sin bin rule used by the referee to send Battle down to 10 Social threatened to extend their lead.
A few good chances were missed while Tony Atkin hit the post when it looked like it was going to sneak in the corner. Battle kept plugging away and a momentary lapse in defence allowed a free header to make the score 2-2.
With only a minute to go Battle were awarded a penalty which was saved excellently by Alex to earn Social a deserved point against a strong side bolstered by there 1st team not having a game. On another day it could have been all 3 points but Social continue their good run of form leading up to next weeks game.
Man of the Match went to Alex for the penalty save and overall display and Donkey of the Week goes to Tony Atkin for literally relaxing a little to much after rounding the keeper.
