Away friendly match

St George's started their away fixtures in great style as the second eleven cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win at Lord Wandsworth College.
The game started with a nervy ten minutes whilst Lord Wandsworth retained possession but the deadlock was broken when Ed Humphries made a great run into the box and latched onto a through ball from captain Will Gray. Moments later Lord Wandsworth were awarded a penalty but did not convert it. Forward Kit Eaton was then unlucky not to add a second when he hit the crossbar from just outside the area. St George's maintained this pressure and added a second goal when Andrei Belonogoff had a shot from midway inside the Lord Wandsworth half which Humphries deflected into the bottom left hand corner minutes before half time.
In the second half, although Lord Wandsworth were more competitive, the strong defensive unit of Belonogoff, Rory Smith, James Burdett, Joey Hamblin and Cormac Brown strived to keep them out and the exciting attacking quintet of Humphries, Eaton, Gray, Jamie Orr and Leon Allos continuing to provide entertainment in a period of play that made St George's look like F.C. Barcelona. These five created multiple chances during this period and Eaton was unlucky to hit the crossbar for the second time from a Belonogoff free kick. Ultimately St Georges saw it through to collect their first win and first clean sheet of the season and they will be looking to build on this in a fortnight when they travel to Gordon's school.
