A disappointing day today as a lack luster first twenty minutes allowed a busy Victoria Dock team coast into an unassailable 4-0 with just 18 minutes played. Whilst this was certainly the toughest test so far this season, there was little to be seen of the flowing football that had seen 23 goals scored in just three games.
To be fair to the visitors they hunted the ball down well, pressing Sproatley at every attempt. But there was no response, only the voices of the team in blue could be heard as the home team were very quiet. Passing was slow and inaccurate,, most 50/50's and arial battles were lost, and Sproatley paid the price four times before settling into the game, at which point it was too late. Chances were created, the best being Perkins hitting the bar in the first half. Maybe things would have been different had one or two of the earlier ones been taken. But the second half improvement was to no avail and the score line ended 0-4 deservedly to Victoria Dock.
Next week another tough encounter awaits against Springhead Spartans. Improvements have to be made. Vocal, desire, determination, touch, control, distribution, winning the 50/50 battles, pressing the opponents and putting a challenge in. In short a much better effort is expected this coming Sunday.
