Sproatley Into Cup Final Following A Hard Fought Semi.

Sproatley are through to this years Cup Final following a hard fought battle on the grass at Longcroft.

A strong start saw Sproatley take an early lead after good work from Ayatu ended up with him being bright down. Herbison confidently despatched the spot kick.

For a fair part of the game the play was scrappy with the home side producing some of the better football with them being used to playing on a difficult pitch. However the score remained at 1-0 until deep into the second half.

Following numerous occasions where Sproatley struggled to keep possession, Tickton finally broke through the stubborn defence for a fairly easy tap in.

This seemed to spur Sproatley into action with a number of chances created. The effort finally paid off with a second spot kick being awarded for a high kick. Again confidently despatched by Herbison making it 2-1. As a result of the dispute over the penalty Tickton were temporarily reduced to ten men whilst a player served a sin bin period.

Sproatley couldn’t capitalise during this period but no sooner had the numbers been made equal Ayatu tapped in following a Perkins effort which hit the bar.

Not long after Sproatley thought they had put the game to bed after some excellent work in the middle by Herbison saw him deliver a perfect shirt pass fo Perkins who skilfully slotted the ball home to make it 4-1.

This was far from game over though as a spirited Tickton side made it 4-2 with five minutes remaining. Soon after it was 4-3 and a nervy couple of minutes were played out with Sproatley holding on for a victory which earns a day out in this seasons Cup Final. A massive well done to the full squad!!
