Sproatley are through to Semi-Final of the Cup in January following a tough battle against a free scoring, hard working Driffield side. The biggest concern of the day was always going to be that a team used to winning, and winning well would come with belief and confidence for getting a result. That was proven after they took the lead following a wind assisted free kick caught Hudson with the sun in his eyes he could only parry the ball for a tap in putting Driffield one up.

The better football was played by Sproatley though so the quality finally paid off with a fine strike from Newton bringing the scores level into the break.

Much similar to the Tickton game, Sproatley found themselves with a chance to score an early second half goal from the spot, however Herbison was unlucky to hit the crossbar.

Sproatley did take the lead though following a spectacular strike from Taylor leaving the Driffield keeper motionless.

Driffield never gave up though and soon found themselves level, and then soon after they were 3-2 up. Again Sproatley had a battle on their hands to win the tie.

A further penalty after Havler was brought down in the area was well finished byTaylor. Havler himself got on the score sheet following a superbly weighted ball left him on one with the keeper, Havler dinked the keeper to put Sproatley back in front.

This time there was no come back from Driffield as Sproatley in their new kit finished the game strongly with a headed goal from Perkins following a Taylor corner. Taylor finished off the scoring just on time with another screamer to make his hat trick!

Always nice to look forward to a Semi Final after Christmas, and with shock results seeing North Ferriby and Victoria Dock knocked out, the competition has become much more open.
