The game started slow with not a lot of quality from either side. In truth the long grass didn’t help the flow of football which affected the pace of the game.

Sproatley did create a couple of decent chances in the early phase which could have turned the game earlier, however Costello were growing in confidence the longer the scores kept level.

A penalty after half an hour enabled Perkins who missed the initial kick to slot home the rebound. Costello equalised from an error from Hudson who having done well to meet the ball outside his area gave the ball on a plate for Costello to slot home from distance.

In truth Sproatley kicked on from this wake up call to play a fifteen minute phase of quality football to take a commanding lead into the break. A screamer from Hatton who smashed the ball into the top corner was followed by an excellent solo effort as Perkins barged through the Costello defence to put Sproatley 3-1 up.

Different to the last fixture between these two teams there were second half goals. A second penalty enable Taylor to slot the visitors into a 4-1 lead. The play wasn’t as good as it had been pre half time, but Sproatley continued to dominate. A bit over overplay thought enabled Costello to cut the lead to 4-2 in a rare spell in the Sproatley half.

The scoring was completed by Herbison with a long distance lob over the despairing Costello keeper.

All in a solid dominant display. There does need to be a better level of ruthlessness to get to the levels to beat the likes of Vicky Dock and Springhead, but recognising the pitch was a bit of leveller, the performance was one to be pleased with.
