Sportsmans were hit early on with Sam Grainger unable to feature and with a number of other players carrying injuries. This was evident with the first half performance and with the change of shape, due to the players available. A breakaway chance in the 2nd minute led to Cowtons taking the lead and a deflected effort finding its way into the corner halfway through the first half. Sporties had zero joy in the first half and a changes were made at half time.

Within 2 minutes of the restart Mikey got at the left back and won a freekick 35 yards from goal. Scott McNichol took it and it found its way in at the far post. It was 2-2 on the hour after substitute Sam Logan controlled and volleyed home from the edge of the box on his debut for the club after coming on for Joe Clarkson. Sporties were soon in the lead after a clumsy challenge in the Cowtons box the referee pointed to the spot, McNichol stepped up and slotted home. The lead didnt last long as a long throw into the box caused havoc and was bundled in minutes after taking the lead. Another penalty was awarded 5minutes later this time for a handball after a goal bound effort from Craven was blocked by the centre half. McNichol stepped up again and found the back of the net to complete his hat trick. Sporties had a couple more chances to seal the win but the keeper did well with some top saves late on but was helpless to keep out the 5th goal after a good build up found Toman on the left side of the box and a delicious ball into the box found Craven at the far post with a tap in. Full time 3-5 to sporties, another away trip to Brompton for the first big test of the season.
