Match Report - SOUTHHILL PARK - 29 Mar 2021

Clearly fresh off the all inclusive cruise ship that is Lockdown 3.0 the softies had a staggeringly slow start. Team cohesion was far below par (and this is a lavender park), match fitness and a new lineup was clearly impacting performance. The Softies went 1-0 down due to an edge of the box rebounded scramble with the defence reacting slower than the UKs COVID response. This was quickly followed by a controversial goal with the ball clearly going out for a SS throw which the opposition took on our behalf and scored from unopposed, whilst the ref and his mouse lungs stood by and allowed the mugging to occur. Shortly after with all the wind in the oppositions sails, a well constructed team goal resulted in an edge of the box top bins finish to make it 3-0. With the clock ticking and chins on the ground Karma struck and a good run down the wing and venemous pass led to an O.G. ... with only 4 minutes left it looked unlikely the SS were rescuing anything from this game, until Dec pulled off a prime berkamp touch flicking the ball around their midfielder and pirouetting the opposite way followed by a sharp finish into the bottom left from the halfway mark! 3-2! Could it be...? 1 minute later Jamie who was a top performer on the day decided to take things into his own feet and ran rings around the opposition defence before powerfully slotting home to equalise 3-3! An attempted homocide and strong case of time wasting from mateo in the closing minute ensured the Softies secured their first point of the season. Onwards and Upwards! Final score 3-3.
