With nearly 50 players unavailable, the team was patched together somehow. Keyse recovering from Covid, Nig, Si and I carrying injuries. Luckily several new players joined the club the wednesday before and got their big chance straight away. We didn't start well, with Torps having a lot of possession and Nige going off injured. Luckily he came back on and we got into our stride. Bygrave causing them problems from the start. We squandered 3 sitters before Torps scored a very soft goal- a cross floated unchallenged across the box for an unmarked man to tap it in. We struck back immediately via Nigel, tapping in from a free kick chipped to the back post. Another goal quickly followed; great work from the always busy Ahmed, crossed to Dank to awkwardly finish. 2-1 at half time but we didn't really deserve it. 2nd half was much better, we were in control and we got the third goal around the hour mark. New boy James Hanson took a throw in which got flicked on by Rennie, Dank headed it goalwards but it was saved. I gratefully gobbled up the rebound. Si Foster made his Sneyd return after a 2 year Covid hiatus replacing the very impressive Bygrave. Foster immediately made an impact by threading a through ball into my path. I was again on my left foot so hesitated to strike it after two missed chances on my left foot. I turned it onto my right and could see Dan arriving at the back post, so i thought i would chip it over, if it didn't go in, then Dan would finish it. Obviously it did go in because I'm a genius. 4-1 up with 15 mins to go, Nige has to go off, I drop into midfield and we know we just have to see the game out. Torps put us under a bit of pressure but the back 4 deal with everything dutifully. With a few mins left, a cross comes in and I turn from hero to slightly less of a hero and slice the clearance on the dreaded left foot. It loops freakishly over everyone and lands in the back of the net. No panic, just see the game out. The next few mins are characterised as us playing the ball to the right corner and Ahmed working his nuts off to close them down. We pin them back and the time eeks out. A really good win, hard fought but with some lovely attacking play. Andy simpson man of the match but honorable mentions to James, Jamie, Ahmed and Rennie.
