Tough Start To The Cup Campaign

A tough, well fought game resulted in a loss for the mighty B's. In a game that was equally balanced for most of the match, it always seemed like whoever broke the deadlock would get the win. The first half was fairly comfortable for us, with the offside trap working well against their quick striker. However, we couldn't get the ball moving in any threatening way until it was nearly half time. We did have the best chances in the first half though, with Jamie getting the ball caught under his feet in the long grass for the best chance of the half. We had a few sweet volleys on goal and caused them problems getting wide. But half time came a bit too soon for us.

The second half trundled on much the same with Mike having a glorious run past 3 defenders and sticking his shot in the top corner, only for the keeper to palm it wide. Kruminho came on and looked dangerous, going through twice, but not quite finishing the chances. The killer blow came around 70 mins in when their striker had a shot well saved, but it dropped right to another Retainers player to tap in. We felt a bit hard done by, but ploughed on. But we got sucker punched from a corner, the first header wasn't dealt with but it was going wide, until their man diverted it in at the last second. 2-0 a very harsh scoreline. We played very well, especially Adam Hendricks who was very assured and composed at the back. He must have made 20 interceptions, then played the ball simply. Brilliant prospect.
