The Mutomo Stadium played host to an engaging friendly match on 2nd March 2025, where SMPI Academy faced off against their U15 counterparts. The match concluded with a convincing 3-0 victory for SMPI Academy, showcasing their dominance throughout the encounter.

In a well-structured 4-3-3 formation, SMPI Academy deployed Hillary Wafula in goal, flanked by a solid backline consisting of Meshack Munyalo on the right, Emmanuel Nzuki and Richard Nyomo in central defence, and Thiery Nzami on the left. The midfield trio featured Kevin Macharia on the right, Peter Mutinda in the centre, and Alex Kiema on the left, while the attacking front comprised William Wambua on the right, Samuel Kyalo as the central striker, and Wisely Lwenya on the left. This formation allowed for a fluid transition from defence to attack, with the wingers expected to stretch the play and create opportunities for the striker.

The substitutes for SMPI Academy were not listed, but the starting eleven was more than capable of delivering a strong performance.

The opening goal came in the 30th minute, with William Wambua finding the net in spectacular fashion. After receiving a short pass outside the area, Wambua unleashed a powerful left-footed strike that left the U15 goalkeeper with no chance, giving SMPI Academy a well-deserved lead.

As the match progressed, the first half concluded with SMPI Academy leading 1-0, and both teams retreated for the interval to regroup and strategise for the second half.

The second half saw SMPI Academy continue to assert their dominance, and in the 60th minute, Wambua struck again. This time, he scored a sensational goal from close range, following a long pass that found him in a prime position. With a deft right-footed finish, he doubled the lead, showcasing his clinical finishing ability and further solidifying his status as the standout player of the match.

As the game approached its conclusion, the relentless pressure from SMPI Academy paid off once more. In the dying moments of the match, during added time, Alex Kiema capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to score the third goal. After a well-placed free kick caused chaos in the U15 defence, Kiema was quick to react, slotting the ball home with his right foot from close range, sealing a comprehensive victory for his side.

The referee, Jose CEO, oversaw the match, ensuring that the game flowed smoothly, although his performance was noted as average.

In the end, SMPI Academy's 3-0 triumph over SMPI Academy U15 highlighted their superior skill and teamwork, with William Wambua undoubtedly earning the title of Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. The victory will serve as a confidence booster as they continue to prepare for future challenges.
