SJB Juniors faced a challenging encounter against Rushall Olympic Women FC on 9th November 2024, at the Aston University Recreation Centre in Walsall. The match, which kicked off at 10:30 am, ended with a scoreline of 2-4 in favour of the opponents, marking a tough day for the Juniors in this league away fixture.

The Juniors lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, which saw Grace in goal, supported by a back four comprising India on the right, Tianna and Daisy in central defence, and Summer Brown on the left. The midfield was structured with Eva Hart on the right, Pearl and Maz centrally, and Kyra on the left, while Freya Nicholson operated just behind the lone striker, Niamh. This setup aimed to provide a solid defensive base while allowing for quick transitions into attack.

The substitutes for the match included Auraya, Mya, and Ruby, who would later play crucial roles as the game unfolded.

The match began with Rushall Olympic taking an early lead in the 11th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse from the Juniors. The goal served as a wake-up call for SJB, who responded positively just three minutes later when Freya Nicholson found the back of the net, levelling the score at 1-1. This goal injected confidence into the Juniors, who began to assert themselves more in the midfield.

However, the match took a turn for the worse for SJB when Eva Hart had to be substituted due to injury in the 29th minute, with Auraya coming on to replace her. Shortly after, in the 33rd minute, Mya entered the fray for Pearl, further altering the Juniors' dynamics as they sought to maintain their competitive edge.

As the first half drew to a close, the score remained level at 1-1, but the Juniors were left to ponder their defensive frailties. The second half commenced with a change for SJB, as Eva Hart returned to the pitch, replacing Daisy, who had also succumbed to injury just after the break.

The match continued to be a rollercoaster, with Rushall Olympic regaining the lead in the 60th minute, followed by another goal just three minutes later, extending their advantage to 3-1. SJB Juniors, however, showed resilience and fought back, with Maz scoring in the 66th minute, assisted by Eva Hart, bringing the score to 3-2 and reigniting hopes of a comeback.

Unfortunately for the Juniors, Rushall Olympic responded swiftly, scoring their fourth goal in the 68th minute, effectively sealing the match. In a final tactical adjustment, Ruby was introduced for India in the 74th minute, as SJB Juniors aimed to salvage something from the game.

Despite their efforts, the match concluded with a disappointing 4-2 defeat for SJB Juniors. The performance of Auraya stood out, earning her the accolade of Player of the Match, as she made a significant impact after coming on. The Juniors will need to regroup and address their defensive issues as they look ahead to their next fixture.
