vs Vela Sabercats

Away league match

First district game of the season versus a tough and rough Vela Sabercats. The start of the journey was a victorious 2-0 win over a rival that will surely be vying for their place in the UIL playoffs!!! It all started with a BEAUTIFUL goal by midfielder Miguel Garza (#21) after he received a nice pass from Pelon (#8) while running down the right side and lobing it over the charging goalie!!! After that it was a bit of back and forth with Vela really never threatning. Rattlers missed their opportunities and left the door open for the Sabercats to grow in their thinking that they may be able to steal one at home versus a superior opponent. As the second half started, the play was noticibally rougher. To the point where a simple routine challenge became push and shove match between Milo (#4) and #10 from Sabercats, and the center referee thought that a RED for each player was warranted. The atmosphere hit a boiling point when Papito (#6) was fouled in the box producing a penalty. While most Sabercat players were arguing and pleading with referee, #7 of Vela decided to get his revenge and discretely (not so discrete, it was caught on video) kicked Papito in the head while he lay on the pitch. Pelon, suprisenly, missed the penalty shot to keep the Sabercats hopes high. Captain Gabo Garza (#10) then took the game over from the right midfield flank and won most every battle from the feisty opponents, all the while creating several attacking runs. Goal #2 eventually came from a Jr. Trevino (#22) header as he put Papitos corner kick in back of the net to give the Rattlers a much deserved victory!!!!

The Defense was especially stingy against a very fast forward dou from Vela. Goal keeper Jake Beber was only shot at 3 times and basically untested for the entire match. Thanks to RB Romi De Leon (#3) and LB Tato Tamez (#26), who constantly thwarted ALL attemps that the Sabercats tried to get passed them through the outside, where they do most of their damage, as reports read. Milo, while on the field, gave a pitbull type welcome to any opponent that dared cross the middle of the attacking sides pitch. Jr, as always, his elegant style of play frusturated the Sabercats each and everytime they thought they had an advantage!!! The crowd was great, the atmosphere was of a playoff game, and the result was achieved because we were the better prepared team!!!!
