Shaftesbury Rec 7 - 1 Gillingham Rec

Team line up: Lauren, Kate, Izzy, Jen, Hollie, Lily, Emma (C), G, and Alisha. Subs: Caitlin, Shannon, and Channy

This morning we hosted Gillingham’s Rec team in a friendly over at Zeal’s. We started of strong, winning clean tackles everywhere across the pitch and having early chances in the box. This led to us being awarded a penalty which Alisha took and drove the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net! We continued to dominate play with Emma playing a switch ball over to Lily on the other side of the box who attacked it and hit the bottom right corner. Defensively we were strong with all players working hard to press and win the ball and the back line staying solid. Gill were awarded a free kick outside the box, but Lauren made a great save to keep us ahead. Shortly after we were awarded a free kick in a similar position outside their box and Alisha went for goal and found the net with a fantastic finish.

Going into the second half we made a few changes ?? Holly, Lily & Izzy ?? Shannon, Channy & Caitlin. The play continued strong with us getting shots on target. Jen crossed in a great corner which was deflected down to G’s feet who knocked it past the keeper. Then Alisha went on to get her hat trick from a through ball well timed by G and a great across goal finish by Alisha. We went on to make our final subs ?? Kate & Shannon ?? Holly and Lily. Jen and Lily continued making unreal slide tackles to win the ball and alongside Emma and Holly were pressuring their strikers on all attacking movements. Alisha dribbled through the opposition to score again !! And then she went on to assist Caitlin who took on the defence and chipped their keeper to make it onto the scoresheet. Lauren made an cracking save from the opposition but took an unfortunate deflection of the ball into her face and needed to be subbed off. Shannon stepped up to the job and put the gloves on for the team. Play continued and unfortunately just with 3 mins to go Gill managed to hit us on a counter attack and snuck the ball into the net.

Great effort and fight from all on the pitch, playing clean football and working as a team to get the ball down the pitch. We look ahead to the first Rec league game next week!!
