Match Report -1st Team AWAY V St Leonards Social. 08/10/2018

The 1st team hit top gear yesterday afternoon as they put 9 past St Leonards Social. In a game that they were never really troubled by the home side, Phil Smith will be delighted to have seen his team take advantage of the chances being created.

The opening 20 minutes saw both teams move the ball well as they worked to suss each other out. It was young Matt Shaw who opened the scoring with an effort on 23 minutes. Pip Hatch added to this on the half hour mark, reacting to a rebound from a long-range effort. Social tried to pull one back coming close from a corner, with another effort dragged wide towards to midway point. Sedlescombe went in at half time 2-0 up.

It was the second half that saw the energy and desire shine through from the visitors. After a couple of misplaced passes in the opening moments, Sedlescombe got back to business with Tom Cusden notching on 51 minutes. The pace and quality of football going forward was a joy to watch. With every attack Seds look like they could trouble the home side. It didn't take long for substitute Luke Davies to score his first of the match on 65 minutes, the strike partnership of Pip Hatch and Tom Cusden both scored again inside the next 10 minutes to make it 6-0.

At this point many teams would have sat back taken a breather, with a job seemingly well done......but not this team! The final 10 minutes did not disappoint!

Luke Davies secured his brace with a 2nd on 80 minutes with a cross come shot that caught everybody out! Social then had only their 3rd shot on target with a late penalty which they converted calmly slotting into the bottom right corner. Sedlescombe then instantly reacted with 2 quickfire goals from inform striker Pip hatch. 2 in 2 minutes made it 4 for Pip on the day and 9 in total. the full-time whistle was welcomed by the home side with the gaming finishing at 9-1. The LCS Roofing and Cladding Man of the Match was Pip Hatch.

A pleasing afternoon after a disappointing opener last week against Battle. The management will be happy with the tempo at which the football was played, maintaining this for 90 minutes. The 1st team travel to Hawkhurst next week who have opened their season with back to back wins.
