Sammy Townsend being part of the squad was a massive delight for manager Saunders who has struggled to find a partnership with Kovacs in recent weeks since the injury of Matthews.
Early on Townsend showed his presence by winning the ball and bypassing midfield to find the run of Hatch, who had no problems knocking it past the outrushing keeper.
The lead wasn’t held for long, some poor clearances allowed a cross to make its way to the back post to find Sidleys number 10 who fired a rocket past debut keeper Toby Green. Nothing he could do about that one.
An evenly contested game that soon became very difficult due to the weather conditions. Passes were sticking and the centre became a mud bath, making it difficult to play the fluid quick passing the Arrows are used to.
The second half whistle blew and shortly after, Sidley’s keeper had a drop kick from his hands that was assisted by the wind and blew straight over the Arrows keeper. A hard one to take but the Arrows continued to cause a threat.
Unfortunately, Sidley put the game to bed with a long free kick that skidded it’s way to the keeper’s chest and found it’s way back to the running striker to tap it in. Appeals for an offside, but the referee wasn’t interested.
Two further late goals for Sidley, both corners and both headers finished the Arrows off for the day. A difficult result to take but the fixture is repeated in two weeks at home.
A deserved win for Sidley, which see’s them rise up the table.
