Home cup match

A big game for Curtis Coombes today, who was given striker responsibilities against his former club Robertsbridge. He welcomed the opportunity with a brace and a MoM performance. ????

The Arrows kicked off and looked confident in their build up play. Good movement and possession football allowed chances to open up against the deep Robersbridge back line.

Boothy was a constant threat beating his man and creating chances. Williams and Scott were constant vocal options allowing Hatch to make clever runs to receive the ball in the attacking third. A rarity to see no goals or assists for this man today, but his desire and work rate in the number 10 role didn’t go unnoticed.

The opener came from a move at the back. Good link up play between Davies and Harley Discala down the right hand side saw Discala get to the byline and back heal it to Davies to sell the defender, and cross it low between the defenders to Coombes who gratefully put it home to earn his first goal for the club.

Another play from the backline, this time Tiltman, made a great pass for Davies to run inside his man and be 1 on 1 with the keeper….rounded the keeper….on to his favourable right foot….empty net…..wide ???????. We’ll just leave that there.

Second half and despite being on the front foot, this game was far from over. Robertsbridge always looked a threat from set pieces and luckily, keeper Connor Holland was always alert to help keep the lead and clean sheet.

Chris Scott this time found the pass to Coombes who looked like he was really enjoying himself with ball at his feet, he cuts inside the defender effortlessly and buries the ball in to the far top right hand corner. Definitely eased the pressure and well deserved.

The last goal came again from great defensive play, this time Cusden who was outstanding for 90 minutes. Williams made a run down the right to get in front of his marker, one step over to put it on his right, a diagonal low pass across the box to Chris Scott who arrived perfectly to smash it home.

We wish Robersbridge all the best for their season and look forward to the next round of Cup action.
