Home cup match
Pass & Move hosted Division 3 leaders Ninfield to the Netherfield Rec in the first round of the Cup.
A change of formation from manager Saunters allowed for some squad rotation and a very strong bench to choose from.
Stace and Harley both impressive in the wing back roles, creating chances and having some themselves. It was Stace’s cross who assisted the opening goal ?? for the forward run of Frazer, who simply guided the ball past the keeper. A tough finish made to look easy. An early lead from the Arrows was a delight and rarity, which helped settle the nerves.
Ninfield, not affected by the goal, started to threaten the Arrows defence. A few long range efforts saved by Holland helped grow their confidence and start to find some openings. An attack down the right produced a low shot to the far post, which rebounded back into play. Players paused and awaited the refs call. Did it hit the post or was it the inside stanchion? ????? Big calls from the Ninfield sideline, but the referee had made his mind and justified his reasons. Pass and Move perhaps given a life line? Who knows…
Both keepers starting to steal the show with some great saves, Ninfield’s tipped Jack Booth’s long range effort over the bar and was saved by his post from Harley’s effort. And then in the last minute before the half Holland pulled off an acrobatic save from an audacious effort by the Ninfield attacker. ??
Half time saw 3 changes for the Arrows with Davies and Paige replacing the wing backs and Coombes playing up front.
A Ninfield handball allowed Jack Booth to convert a beautiful free kick ?? past the hands of the keeper. Was it a deflection? Who cares, it was in the back of the net.
A short while after, Pip wanted in on the action. ?? Some great build up play between defence and midfield allowed Frazer to find the run of Hatch who slotted it home. Saunters will have liked that one, straight from the training ground.
Getting the taste for it, Booth fires in again??. Davies was picked out by Pip on the far post, stuck between two defenders had his effort blocked by the defender which fell to Booth on the edge of the box, who hit a screamer in the far corner.
Feeling comfortable and close to the end, Pass & Move applied pressure. Another intelligent press from youngster Callum Brand gave their keeper a difficult job. Davies read the clearance and nicked the ball from the defender and placed his shot into an empty net ??.
