vs Little Common Reserves
Home league match
After a handsome pre-season of games and beating opposition in higher divisions, the Arrows went into the first game of the season with confidence high.
A sloppy start and the Arrows found themselves on the back foot from the start. Little Commons pace up front and down the wing was definitely cause for concern and soon paid dividends after Little Common’s striker tried to knock it past Holland’s hard challenge which brought him down. The ref wasn’t interested in appeals that it was outside the box and awarded the penalty. 1-0 Common.
Shortly after, Common had a good piece of build up play from a throw in and down the right hand side where it was pulled back for their striker on the edge of the box, who took a touch and put it away decisively.
Arrows now started to find their rhythm and a Davies corner found a front post run from Williams who managed to delicately lob the ball over the back line and bounce over the line.
A confidence boost from the goal now saw the Arrows in dominant possession. Good aggressive runs from Cusden up front and the continuous pressing from midfield was putting Commons back line to the test.
The game became very scrappy with the ref blowing for fouls too frequently, not allowing the Arrows to build rhythm to play their free flowing football.
The closest chance came right at the end when Irving won a free kick in a wide area. Cusden floated it in between the centre backs to find Matthews perfectly, who hit the sweet spot 3 yards out directly into the chest of the keeper.
Full time 1-2
