Babbacombe Corinthians 1

Salcombe returned to winning ways on Saturday with a comprehensive victory over bottom of the table Babbacombe . With the luxury of almost a full squad to choose from, with the exception of goalkeeper Ewan Grewal seriously injured in the last game , manager Phil Greaves was left with a number of selection headaches.

Fielding an attacking lineup Town went for it straight from the kick off and despite playing into the teeth of a biting wind went in front with just two minutes on the clock, the returning Guy Watson netting from close range. Two minutes later and it was two nil with the Corries defence unable to cope with Salcombe's pace ,and the power of Watson who was on hand to net his second. Town were creating chance after chance but could not add to their lead with Charlie Barnes having the best of them shooting over the bar when it looked easier to score. With the wind behind them Babbacombe gradually dragged themselves back into the game, the warning signs were there when goalkeeper Jim Weeks had to be alert to keep out a dangerous free kick but when a wind assisted corner went in at the near post Corries were back in the game. It was important now that Salcombe kept their discipline for the remainder of the half and having weathered the storm they regained their two goal lead on the half hour mark , George Dodge playing Barnes through the middle to beat the out rushing

goalkeeper.

Coming out for the second half with the wind behind them Salcombe were hopeful of putting some distance between them and the still dangerous Corries but it took until the 65th minute for them to increase their lead, Ashley Yeoman getting on the end of a good move to fire home. It was Yeoman again five minutes later grabbing Town's fifth when a poor clearance from the goalkeeper gave him the opportunity to score from the edge of the penalty area. Babbacombe were clearly demoralised now and Luke Milton was on hand to score the sixth from close range following a free kick which the goalkeeper was unable to hold.

That wrapped up the scoring and the three points for Salcombe and keeps them second in the table going into next weeks local derby against Loddiswell , kick off at Malborough is at 2.30.

The club would like to thank this weeks match sponsors Salcombe Gin.
