Home league match
Following a bumpy ride on last week's pitch, Mark and Ian yet again demonstrated their commitment to SAHA by spending their Saturday afternoons preparing the pitches.
Colts were in a confident mood for their league fixture against Meole after some close games recently and started the game quite brightly. In the 2nd minute George broke free down the left and wriggled past a couple of challenges but was unable to get much power with his right footed shot on the turn.
In the 4th minute George won the ball in midfield, skipped past a couple of players and played a nice through ball to Matty J who was just unable to put it away as keeper charged out.
In the 6th minute, Colts went 1-0 down against run of play as their left winger made a strong run from midfield and whipped in a cross that was met at the back post.
Straight from the kick-off, Meole went 2-0 up as an innocuous shot from the edge of the box bounced through a crowd of players into the net.
Colts almost got one back a minute later as a long ball from Jacob was chased down by Matty, who was foiled by the onrushing keeper. George won the ball from the rebound and beat a man before having a long range shot with his left saved by the keeper.
In the 13th minute George battled his way through a large group of players before passing to Ryan on the edge of the box, whose left footed shot was saved by the keeper.
Just before the end of the first quarter, a cross from the left slipped through Zen’s hands and was tucked away easily to make it 0-3.
At the start of second quarter, a corner from Ryan slipped through the keeper’s hands and Cole was unlucky to see his volley go just wide. However, in the 19th minute, Colts conceded another as a great long range shot looped into the top corner (0-4).
Two minutes later a shot that looked more like a cross went straight in to make it 0-5.
Colts kept plugging away and Will had a cheeky near post shot saved after being set up by Jack after great work on the right wing.
Three minutes into the final quarter, Colts got a deserved goal. Freddie released George down the right side of the penalty area, who calmly slotted it past the keeper. (1-5)
Two minutes later, Meole won a scrap in midfield, released the ball down the right wing and dispatched a good, low cross at the back post. (1-6)
Four minutes from the end, good pressure from Colts down the right led to a cross from Freddie that Jack got on the end of to make it 2-6. A really well deserved goal from Jack who had worked his socks off from start to finish.
Colts were left bruised by the defeat but can take away positive thoughts after more than matching Meole in the 2nd half of the game. The mums all went away happy after being given lovely cupcakes made by Elaine to celebrate Mother's Day.
