Away league match

Colts 2nd game started with a Convoy of cars heading towards Wales, for what one player described as an 'International match in Wales'

Leaving Sunny Shrewsbury the Convoy arrived to a slightly colder venue.

Fortunately some of the more experienced spectators were able to point the rest in the direction of bacon butties and a hot cuppa.

The Lads were coiled for this game after last week and loved the smaller, muddier pitch.

Oswestry only lined up with 5 but were a strong team

As before the managers had organised a fair rotation with Finn Starting in goal.

A slightly nervy start led to Oswestry opening the scoring with a very good individual goal. Their keeper started well and continued to make excellent saves throughout.

SAHA continued to defend well with some excellent tacking and good formation.

They had listened and learnt from last week and always looked to pass the ball. Matty even passing it back to Will to clear. A great example of 'playing the way you face'

Finn made some important saves to keep the Colts in it, coming off his line well before kicking up field, setting up Freddie who put the shot just wide.

SAHA made some great opportunities in the first 2 quarters of the match but were unable to hit the target.

Early in the 3rd quarter with Matthew in goal Jack scored from Finns cross/shot playing at right midfield.

Ryan went on another of his speedy runs and his shot/cross was just too far for Finn to tap in.

Finn was able to nick the ball from a defender before shooting. The keeper made a terrific save, tipping it onto the bar.

Jack kept Oswestry at bay and Matthew made some great saves, not least a double save, one of which he took in the privates!

Matthew was also quick off his line and his clearance set Ryan off on another speedy run, making it 2-1.

Minutes later, the whole ground applauded as Freddie scored a worldie. A cleared corner broke to him 20 yards out. His first time shot, powered into the top corner. 'You don’t save those' 3-1

Saha continued to press against a tiring Oswestry and Matty showed great composure to knock in a great cross which would have resulted in another goal, but for some more brilliant goalkeeping.

Soon after, George broke free and passed to Freddie whose shot was spilled only for Matty to tap in, a real team move finishing with a poachers goal. 4-1

Oswestry now struggled to match SAHA pace and George again broke free, passing to Matty who continued the run and slotted it home 5-1

Saha were now attacking both flanks and a cross from the left by George was poked home by Freddie 6-1

SAHA continued to tackle bravely, led by Jack and Cole. Will as ever playing calmly and with a smile on his face. Showing signs of a very composed player.

Finn managed to battle his way through and with a looping shot sent SAHA 7-1 up.

Cole was unlucky not to have scored when his half volley came bouncing back of the bar, leaving it shaking.

In the final minutes, George who had looked like scoring all game cut in from the right, hitting a lovely left foot shot into the top corner to finish it at 8-1.

Oswestry’s 5 lads, tired against SAHA who were able to change each outfield player during each quarter. But once in front SAHA showed a thirst for goals and played with great spirit having been one down up to the 3rd quarter.

A great team effort and showed great character in keeping going.

Match Highlights

Finn Coming off his line
Freddie scoring a worldie
Matthew making a double save and setting up a goal from a clearance
Cole facing his own goal, stopping the ball before turning on it.
Jack scoring his first goal
Matty making some great passes
Will looking very composed on the ball
George flying up the left wing
Ryan taking brilliant corners.

Things to work on for next week – Keeping shape to avoid counter attacks.

FINN

Played first 20 in goal

Again made some great clearances and came off his line.

Needs to think about saving when coming off his line when closing player down.

Played 10 mins and RM and had the Captains armband, which was too big and never stopped smiling

Came on for Matty who had a knock and scored his first goal and didn’t know what to do with himself!!
