RWAFA Football Club faced a challenging encounter against Goodhope Soccer Academy at the Annex Field Shanzu on 6th July 2024, with the match concluding in a disappointing 3-1 defeat for the visitors. The match kicked off at 3:30pm, and RWAFA struggled to find their rhythm against a determined Goodhope side.
RWAFA adopted a 4-2-1-3 formation, which aimed to provide a solid defensive base while allowing for attacking fluidity. In goal, Hassan Shee was tasked with keeping the opposition at bay, while the back four comprised Mohammed Ghazal on the right, Yakini Mwazani and Hamidu Tabwara as central defenders, and Omar Sadiq on the left. The midfield was anchored by the duo of Ashraf Gomba and Mohammed Omar, with Samuel Lemashon positioned as the attacking midfielder. Up front, Hamisi Swaleh (Cheupe) operated on the right, Athman Gambetaz led the line as the striker, and Hassan Kirozo took up the left forward position. The substitutes for RWAFA included Hassan Zumo, Ali Koi, and Masudi Bokoko.
The match began with an early setback for RWAFA, as Goodhope Soccer Academy struck first within just two minutes, taking a swift lead that set the tone for the match. RWAFA struggled to respond effectively in the opening stages, with the opposition's early goal providing them with a confidence boost.
As the first half progressed, RWAFA began to find their footing, creating a few chances but failing to convert. However, just before the half-time whistle, Samuel Lemashon found the back of the net in the 44th minute, equalising for RWAFA and providing a glimmer of hope as the teams headed into the break at 1-1.
The second half saw RWAFA make a tactical substitution, bringing on Hassan Zumo for Hamisi Swaleh (Cheupe) shortly after the restart in the 49th minute. This change aimed to inject fresh energy into the side as they sought to take control of the match. However, Goodhope responded with a goal of their own in the 59th minute, regaining the lead and putting RWAFA under pressure once again.
In an effort to turn the tide, RWAFA made further tactical substitutions in the 70th minute, introducing Ali Koi for Omar Sadiq and Masudi Bokoko for Ashraf Gomba. Despite these changes, RWAFA struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, and their task became even more difficult when Yakini Mwazani was shown a red card in the 75th minute for offensive language and gestures, leaving RWAFA with ten men.
As the match drew to a close, Goodhope Soccer Academy sealed their victory with a third goal in the 87th minute, leaving RWAFA with little time to mount a comeback. The final whistle confirmed a 3-1 defeat for RWAFA, marking a challenging day for the team as they look to regroup and learn from this performance.
