Match Report - St. Helier Youth U11’S - 21 Jan 2018

Old Ruts football boys U11's Yellow's have gone through to the cup final. A great team display which consisted of work rate, desire and passion!

Having played St Helier’s a few times we noticed that they had quite a bit of success when their defenders played it long, bypassing our midfield.

Our lead coach thought a false 9, (two rows of 4) sitting deep and hitting them on the counter would help mitigate this tactic, which it did.

The only time we've played similar to this is when we've been fully in control of a game. This is so we can practice countering and it also lets the struggling side have more of the ball. We don't score as many but I think it helps develop the players.

As the conditions got worse, it made it harder for us to counter and affected our final ball. Something to work on in training. However, I think it also made it harder for the opposition to play through us.

Everyone loves a clean sheet but not a penalty shoot out!! Again, our boys kept their cool, winning 5:4 and once again Sean proving what a fine shot stopper he is.
