vs Waddington United
Away cup match
The game started as a tentative affair with a lot of battle but no real clear cut chances with both teams having a couple of half chances with no success. The breakthrough came just before half time for the home side when Paul Norris was penalised for a push in the area and the Waddington man calmly converted the resulting spot kick.
The second half would be livelier than the first and Ruston's stepped it up having a number of chances but being unable to get back into the game. They would though get a reward for their pressure when a Pete Dickson free kick was spilled and Norris found the back of the net for the centre half's 5th of the season.
The away side were dominating the affair but Waddington would catch them on the break to regain the lead when some good work down the left resulted in their striker turning home from within the area. Ruston's knew they needed a goal and had a number of chances from set pieces but would ultimately shoot their selves in the foot with ten minutes to go when neither Ashley Franklin or Josh Hayes cleared the ball allowing Waddington's striker a clean run at an open goal that he duly converted.
Ruston's man of the match was Jack Willan with a commanding display at the back.
