Away league match
The 1st team travelled to Welwyn for an away game to Welwyn Warriors, who were top of the Division 2 table going into the fixture.
As the game got underway, the lads started well with Dan Mills hitting the post from a tight angle from close range. Jamie Turner saw his free kick strike the crossbar from long range.
Welwyn Warriors took the lead with one of their forwards getting beyond the defence after a through ball played to him, he went round Harvey Johnson the Royston goalkeeper and slotted the ball into an empty net. The half time score being 1-0 to Welwyn Warriors.
In the second half the lads yet again started the second half well, Royston Rangers hitting the crossbar bar from a header by midfielder Cameron Ferguson. Royston later found themselves 2-0 down after failing to clear the ball in their penalty area the loose ball fell to the scorer of the first Welwyn Warriors goal who placed his shot beyond Harvey Johnson.
There was hope as Royston pulled a goal back, right full back Tom Hughes retrieved the ball from a cross. His first touch took it past the Welwyn Warriors full back, second touch was a lofted ball towards the back post and there was Glenn Johnson to put the ball away on the volley from close range.
Royston then found an equaliser through forward Karl McGroary, he was played through by Ghilas Lounis with a well timed pass and Karl kept his composure slotting the ball past the goal keeper into the bottom corner.
Welwyn Warriors had a good chance as the ball fell to their striker from close range who struck it well but was brilliantly palmed away by Harvey Johnson.
Just when Royston were getting back into the game, they then trailed after conceding from a corner.
Royston then kept on pushing for the equaliser and they found it! The ball fell to Cameron Ferguson at the back post, he drilled it towards goal and found its way in.
Man of the match was awarded to Cameron Ferguson for his brilliant performance in the central midfield role, barely put a foot wrong all game.
A very good performance all round and a very good game for all involved.
