Spennells United 2 Roebuck 3
Roebuck were back in action after there 3-2 defeat last week to the league champions Royal Exchange. The trip to Bewdley to play Spennells was always going to be tough, specially with the Buck squad being stretched down to the bare bones. Dave Green who is currently injured put on the gloves to play in goal and Mark Houghton (assistant manager) was left as the only available substitute the club could name.
Spennells dominated the early possession but the Buck back line held strong and offered protection for Green in goal. On 12 minutes Alex Harris broke either the ball a slid a pass for Chris Hunt to ran on to as he placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net, 1-0. Spennells carried on having the upper hand of the possession but didn't threaten much in the first half while the Buck always looked dangerous on the break.
H/T 0-1
In the second half the Buck thought they had grabbed their second early but Harris's tap in was eventually ruled out for a questionable off side decision. Spennells mounting pressure eventually paid off as they scored off a corner in the 62nd minute to make it 1-1. With 15 minutes remaining United then took the lead as it looked like Roebuck were going to fall short. To the credit of the Buck players they didn't drop their heads and on 80 minutes Alex Harris smashed the ball straight over the Spennells keepers head to make it 2-2. With the clock running down and the game stretched it was the Buck who pinched the winning goal as skipper Sam Robbins headed a trademark Hunt long throw into the far corner of the net to make the score 3-2 in the 89th minute.
Referee Paul Flanders voted Chris Hunt as Man of the Match for his efforts up too and always looking dangerous on the ball.
This victory is right up there as one of the best wins of the season giving how stretched we are at the moment and the volume of games we are playing so well done to everyone who took part but a special mention for 2 players, firstly coach Martin Sherwood who completed his first 90 minutes of the season out of his usual position (on the touchline with an ice cream) and secondly injured midfielder Dave Green who stepped up and contributed 2 or 3 good stops in goal to help secure the victory.
