A really tough cup draw pitched Roach Whites against a team 2 divisions higher and who'd already convincingly won their first 2 games.
The team talk was simple; go out and surprise them, attack from the off and try to grab the first goal. And that's what we did! 22 minutes in, and with almost his first kick off the game, Logan closed down a defensive mistake and smashed the ball into the net from a tight angle. This gave the Roach lads even more belief and they pushed hard for a 2nd. After being awarded a free kick mid-way into the opposition half, Logan confidently put himself forward to take it and found the top corner. Two goals up and there was a feeling we could pull off our very own cupset! Miam Miam Celtic were not just going to lie down though and turned up the pressure. Just before half time, and in a mad 3 minutes, panic set in and a lack of composure cost Roach Whites 3 goals in 3 minutes.
Half time was a chance to regroup and refocus. We asked the lads to close down quicker in the midfield and deny the opposition time on the ball.
To be fair to the opposition, they had plenty of chances to extend their lead in the 2nd half but a mixture of brilliant saves by Taylor and poor finishing, meant that there were no more goals in the game and Roach Whites would be heading out of the cup.
The lads can be massively proud to have caused a scare and really went close today.
Man of the match went to Taylor, who's heroics kept us in the game.
