Match Report - WESTBURY SPORTS CLUB U13 VIPERS - 18 Dec 2021

Greens went to Westbury (again) for our last game before Christmas. Pre-match team talk was about starting fast with plenty of energy, intensity and aggression. We lost possession quickly from the kick off, conceded a corner, failed to deal with it and were 1 down within the first minute! Best laid plans.

Westbury had the better of the next 20 minutes but we defended well, without conceding further and a break down the right in the 26th minute by Ewan resulted in a hard low cross which cannoned off a defender straight to Joe who tucked hit away into the corner with his first touch having just come on the pitch. Possession was being given up too easy and we were lucky to go in at half time still level.

Greens upped the energy in the second half but it was real backs to the wall stuff as Westbury continued to have the lion's share of the ball. It was only down to man of the match performances from Harvey, Josh and James that kept us at 1-1, James pulling off a string of fine saves and blocks. Westbury thought they'd netted a second after a very rare mistake from James after he spilled a shot, but it was correctly ruled offside by the excellent referee. Greens could have snatched it at the death when Jailson burst through but Westbury's keeper made a fine save.

Probably fortunate to get a point but everybody kept going to the end, so well done.
