Away league match

A good performance today from Roach Greens to bounce back to winning ways.

A slight change in formation again saw Greens go to a 4-3-3 and we asked the midfield three to be compact and control the middle. The pressure from the first whistle was evident and Roach opened the scoring after just 3 minutes, Jailson picking up the ball on the edge of the area and hitting a lobbed shot into the top corner. Four minutes later and the combination play from the forwards paid off with Logan playing Ewan through to finish well for the second goal. And it was 3-0 just two minutes later, when Ewan returned the favour playing in Logan to smash into an empty net. With a three goal lead it gave Roach a chance to give some players a bit more game time and so there were plenty of subs for the rest of the half. In fairness to Shawside, they didn't drop their heads and kept playing positive football which paid off in the 20th minute when the ref awarded them a penalty. James made a good effort to stop it but it was well placed into the corner of the net. Roach stepped up the pressure again and in the 25th minute, great work down the right by Ewan saw him square the ball for Logan to grab another poacher's goal for his second. Just a minute later and the same two combined again, Logan playing a great through ball and Ewan firing home. Shawside continued to believe in themselves and managed to grab a fortunate second to bring us in 5-2 up at half time.

We asked the team not to get complacent in the second half and to continue working hard.

Shawside actually grabbed the first goal of the second half with more positive play but shortly after, Logan completed his hat-trick finishing off from inside the 6 yard box again. Shawside pushed again and reduced the gap to two goals in the 51st minute making the last twenty minutes more nervy than they should've been but then in the 65th minute, Ewan sprang free down the right yet again, this time powering towards goal and firing into the corner for his hat-trick.

Man of the match awards went to Ewan with 3 goals and 3 assists, James who pulled off some good saves and tackles on the edge of his area and George who moved into central defence and was solid in his tackles.
