Away league match

A late 12 o'clock kick off against a new team to the league awaited us today. We played on a full size 3G pitch in full size nets, so knew we'd be in for a high scoring game!

Lightbowne took the lead in the 7th minute after a well worked move and that was the start of some real end to end football. Just a minute later, Roach Greens attacked down the right wing with Ewan squaring the ball for Alex to finish nicely. More chances for both teams came before, in the 13th minute, Lightbowne grabbed their second goal. Roach, however, went straight down the other end and equalised again in the very next minute, a reverse of the first goal with Alex assisting Ewan this time. Then just 3 minutes later, Lightbowne found a way through to take the lead for the third time. Roach pushed and pushed for another equaliser, hitting the bar and the post in the process, and were unlucky to come in 3-2 down at half time.

We encouraged the team to keep looking for the diagonal balls out to the forwards as that's where we were having the most joy.

Unfortunately, the game got away from Roach in the 2nd half. After 44 minutes Lightbowne grabbed 2 goals in the space of 3 minutes to make it 5-2. Jailson started to make his presence felt in the midfield though and was playing some great through balls, which in the 51st minute Ewan got on the end of to finish superbly and give Roach some hope at 5-3. The game was put to bed by Lightbowne though after 55 minutes with another 3 goals in 7 minutes. Roach pushed for a consolation and got it in almost identical fashion to their third. Jailson played a fantastic ball in behind the defence for Ewan to run on to and finish for his hat-trick. It finished 8-4 but if Roach had taken their chances, it could've been much closer.

Man of the match awards went to Harvey for a good defensive display against skillful opponents, Ewan for his hat-trick and all round forward play and Josh for showing the intensity that we want to see from everyone on Roach Greens.
